  • Description

    Pileus: 40 mm, convex, slightly cleft, densely matted subtomentose, dark chocolate brown, staining black. Context white; becoming red then black. Odor pungent, non-idiosyncratic; taste mild.Stipe: 65 x 17 mm, subclavate, solid, minutely tomentose, dark brown to nearly black; tomentose hairs sometimes clustered into tomentose scales. Reticulate at apex. Context same as in pileus. Basal mycelium white or pale gray.Hymenophore: Poroid, adnate; pores round, 2 per mm, stuffed; mouth black, stuffed with gray pith; tubes 4 mm long, white to pale gray, quickly staining bright crimson when cut.
