Habitat
Road passing through abandoned pastures and storage yards, with numerous large, mature Hura crepitans planted on both sides of road, forming an allée.

Description
Tree 10 m tall; bark on trunk white with hard spines; bark on twigs green, with spines; sap readilly flowing from wounds, some touching skin of collectors without noticeable ill effect; flowers somewhat inconspicuous from ground. Female flowers terminal or seemingly axillary; with a well-developed leathery red style, flared distally, rotate. Male flowers on catkin-like structure, conical in shape, ca. 3 cm long and 2 cm broad, this also red. Fruit a flattened sphere, like a pumpkin, ca. 8 cm diameter, explosively dehiscent, bursting bags in dryer, green; seeds lenticular, tan. Phenology of specimen: Flower and Fruit.
