(Highwood Pass) ca. 40 mi. S of Hwy. 1,
ca. 1/2 mi E of and 800 ft above Hwy.
940; elev 8600 ft.

Alpine, above timberline or on rocky
talus, 40% S slope.

With dominants: Salix, Dryas octopet-
ala, Hedysarum sulphurescens; also with
Polygonum, Myosotis, Carex, Arabis drum-
mondii, Saussurea nuda, Arnica mollis,
Penstemon procerus. Astragalus bourgov-
ii, Poa alpina, P. epilis.

Rays lavender.
