NW1/4NE1/4 SECT. 18. Ernst. East side of Illinois
Route 1, at south side of junction with Ernst Road,
dismantled railroad right-of-way (New York Central
Railroad), Snyder 7.5 min. quadrangle; elevation 570
feet. Alkaline clay-loam, some limestone gravel from
railroad bed.

Tallgrass prairie remnant, with Andropogon gerardi,
Aster praealtus, Helianthus mollis, Pycnanthemum
spp., Teucrium. Rather common scattered erect
perennial 1-1.5 meter tall, rays golden yellow, disk dark
brown.
