Habitat
Cultivated with other fruit trees at house. Said to have beeb brought from the wild state in tropical evergreen forest at nearby Rio Surutu.

Description
In tight clumps of up to 8 or 9 stems, to 10 m. tall, to 15-18 cm. in diam., with spreading black sharp spines except for smooth leaf scar. Large individuals with 15-20 leaves per crown, no flowering or fruiting but a very young spathe visible on one plan.
