Anderson states that this collection is what Keck named as Chrysothamnus axillaris. In his own short paper ("Taxonomic notes on the Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus complex" Madrono 17: 222-227, 1964), Anderson stated that C. axillaris should not be recognized as a species, but as one of the subspecies of C. viscidiflorus; either ssp. stenophyllus, ssp. viscidiflorus, ssp. elegans(?), or ssp. puberulus. 02038518
