Loran C. Anderson states that this collection
is what Keck named as Chrysothamnus axillaris.

In his own short paper ("Taxonomic notes on the
Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus complex" Madrono 17:
222-227, 1964), Anderson stated that C. axillaris
should not be recognized as a species, but as one
of the subspecies of C. viscidiflorus; either ssp.
stenophyllus, ssp. viscidiflorus, ssp. elegans(?),
or ssp. puberulus.
