Flora of Baja California Sur, Mexico
Asteraceae

Bidens nudata T. S. Brandegee
Zoe 1(10):309-310. 1890.

Fj progeny from a floristic voucher, past
flowering, originally collected 30 January 1990 (T. S. Ross
et al. 2343, at RSA). Site: Sierra de La Laguna, near W
margin of La Laguna meadow in the dappled shade of
woodland dominated by Pinus lagunae, Que reus devia, and Q.
tuberculata; (ca 600 m WSW of the Campamento Forestal near
head of trail that winds down the W side of the range to San
Juan del Aserradero) ca 6200 feet/1890 m elevation; near
23°32'45"N 109°59'00”W (based on a dubiously reliable
map).

Apparently a rare local endemic — only one plant
seen on a two-week east to west transect of the mountain
range (from Sol de Maio to Cañón del Aserradero).

Cultivated at the home of the collector in
Ontario, California, for better keying material. Seeds sown 1
March 1992; first germinations after 12 days.

Suffrutescent perennial from an ultimately woody
rootstock. Plants to ca 3 or 4 dm tall with stems sprawling to
11 or 12 dm across. Ray & disk flowers golden yellow. Rays
generally 8, sometimes apparently lighter yellow in the
distal third or fourth of the ligule. Disk flowers ca 30-36.
Anthers brownish. Stems medium green or purplish,
maturing to brown and ± woody. Flowering in cool weather,
beginning here about October or November.
