Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the geographic center of the confluence of Igarapé Japim and the reservoir area of Usina Hidrelétrica de Samuel (UHE Samuel), known as Represa de Samuel, in Porto Velho, Rondônia; taking into account the added uncertainty of the word "próximo" (vicinity) in the locality description. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located Igarapé Japim, which stems from the reservoir area of the UHE Samuel. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the geographic center of the mouth of Igarapé Japim. Because the locality description states nearby Igarapé Japim, measured from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the reservoir area southeast (to the shore) that may be considered the area of the reservoir nearby the stream. Input coordinates, linear extent (10749.0 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius. This area appears to regularly flood, as seen on Google Maps - Satellite View between zoom levels.
