  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the mouth of Rio Curuçá in Amazonas, Brazil. Referred to Figure 1 of "Molecular epidemiology of hepatitis B virus among the indigenous population of the Curuçá and Itaquaí Rivers, Javari Valley, State of Amazonas, Brazil" for location information for Rio Curuçá (Costa, Cristóvão Alves da, & Kimura, Lucinete Okamura. 2012. Molecular epidemiology of hepatitis B virus among the indigenous population of the Curuçá and Itaquaí Rivers, Javari Valley, State of Amazonas, Brazil. Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 45(4), 457-462. Accessed: December 02, 2013, from http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0037-86822012000400008&lng=en&tlng=en. 10.1590/S0037-86822012000400008). Using the reference map and Google Maps - Satellite View, located Rio Curuçá, a tributary of Rio Javari (synonymous with Rio Yavari). Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the mouth of Rio Curuçá, on the adjacent shore. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the confluence of Rio Curuçá and Rio Javari (mouth of Rio Curuçá). Input coordinates, linear extent (386.159 m.), and measurement error (.001 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Mouth or headwaters of a river, confluence of waterways, trailhead).
