open alpine 15% slope, 30% exposed rock,
10% bare ground.

With dominants: Cassiope, Antennaria
lanata, Polygonum bistortoides, also with
dwarf Salix, Potentilla, Eriogonum
simplex, Juncus, Poa alpina.

Dioecious; mats to 4 dm broad; foliage
gray.

Distribution: NY
