Habitat
Flat to very gently rolling, sandy clay soil. Brushy with remnant trees, edges of pasture and dirt road to southwest, former tropical evergreen forest, with Croton matourensis, Abarema jupunba.

Description
Several stems in a clump, 2.5 m tall. Inflorescence bracts red-purple with green tips, the basal ones red within when open to disperse the fruit. flowers bright red.
