  • Georeferencing Method

    Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Could not find the exact location of "Trilha da Porteira" within the Una Biological reserve. Therefore, georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the Reserva Biológica do Mico-leao (more commonly labeled as the "Una Biological Reserve" in online gazetteers), Mun. Ilhéus, Bahia, as defined by the boundaries represented in Wikimapia, which were verified using maps found on the Official Ecoparque de Una website [http://www.ecoparque.org.br/localizacao.htm]. Using Wikimapia, located the park and found coordinates for its most extreme boundaries (N/S/E/W). Using Google Maps - Satellite View, and Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps), measured the distance between the N-S and E-W limits of the park, and divided those distances in half in order to estimate the precise geographic center of the whole reserve. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of this point. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the estimated geographic center of the Una Biological Reserve, to the most distant boundary of the park, 10595.9 m), and measurement error (0.1) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Bounded Area).
