  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to Wikimapia.org for locality information for Praia de Gaibu (beach). Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Praia de Gaibu in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Pernambuco. Used the reference material and Google Maps – Earth and Map Views to locate Praia de Gaibu, the beach area within the neighborhood of Gaibu. Used the Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the approximate starting (-8.330572, -34.950811) and endpoints (at: -8.343303, -34.947623) of the beach, then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along the shoreline nearest to the midpoint of the line; used the Google Maps – What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic midpoint of the shore of Gaibu. Input coordinates, coordinate precision (.00001 degrees), coordinate source (locality description), datum (WGS84), linear extent (763.06 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: River, stream, road, path).
