11 mi. NW of Rifle, S of Rio Blanco, W-
and N-facing steep slopes of gray sand
clays and red soils in Juniperus osteo-
sperma woods.

With Haplopappus spinulosus, Machaeran-
thera pulverulenta, Aster laevis,
Artemisia arbuscula var. nova, Atriplex
nuttallii, Amelanchier, Sarcobatus, Quer-
cus qambellii, Cercocarpus montanus.

Washes m badlands. Foliage glaucous;
rays pale pink-lavender, fading to near
white.
