Description
Pileus 20-25.5 cm broad, plano-convex, dry, red to reddish brown (8B8, 8D-E-F8), matted tomentose, irregular to uneven at margin. Flesh yellow, weakly cyanescent in scattered areas, with pungent odor and mild taste. Tubes adnexed, greenish yellow, cyanescent, with cyanescent red pores. Stipe 9 cm long, 2.5-7 cm broad, strict, flattened, subpruinose to finely scissurate above, more matted subpruinose below, but sometimes scissurate, pale orange on yellow ground above, deeper red toward base, with interior yellow, scantily cyanescent. Difficult to tell color of base due to embedded soil.
