In disturbed, basaltic soil on S-facing ditchbank with Elymus.
Artemisia & Pinus. Plants perennial from cormoid, non-
stoloniferous rhizomes; stems ascending-strigose, to 60 cm tall;
involucre to 4.5 mm high; phyllaries strongly graduated,
chartaceous with a rhombic, green tip; ray florets 12-18, the ligules
white and ca. 6 mm long; pappus of numerous capillary bristles.
