    Undera thin canopy of Juglans nigra, Acer negundo, Styphnolobium japonicum on slope with some disturbance from trash, but not mowed, with much Eupatorium rugosum and formerly more Verbesina alternifolia.

  • Description

    Forming moderately tight clumps of up to 8 stems, 1-1.2m tall. In full bloom, no insects seen (8:45 AM, sunny), flowers with only very faint odor; rays light violet with slight variation between clumps; disc flowers yellow when first open but turning darker violet than the rays. These plants had mature fruit on 2 Dec 2009. Large colony. From a distance the colony looks very similar to no. 56502 A. sagittifolius collected 0.45km to the N in a similar habitat.
