Teton County: Hoback River, 5 km (3 mi) east of Hoback Junction; 43°15’48”N, 110°39’42”W; T39N R115W S31(nel/4); 1830 m (6000 ft) elevation. Gravelly clay soil, in open places. Plants rhizomatous, forming clusters to 1 m in diameter; involucral bracts with a dark green midrib and apex, the lower margins pale green, the mucronate tip dark purple; rays light violet, the disk orangish-yellow turning brown.
