  • Description

    Pileus 4.5-7 cm broad, dark brown on disc, caramel brown (6C6) toward margin, broadly conic, subviscid to glutinous when moist, with fibrils aggregated and erect, viscid on disc, finely appressed subareolate squamulose toward margin with some sterile appendiculate remnants. Flesh white, unchanging with mild odor and with bitter tasting pellicle. Tubes adnexed, vinaceous pink with pores concolorous, staining pale brown. Stipe 7-12 cm long, 5-12 mm broad, equal, coarsely lacunose-reticulate, with reticulum a pale brown (cinnamon brown 6D6), with white at stipe surface (in lacunae), reticulum disappearing from apex with age and then white at apex, white at base, with a bright yellow areas at base in situ, with interior white, solid above, becoming hollow near base, unchanging.
