MEXICO: Edo. de México

mays L. ssp. mexicana (Schrad.)litis
Race Chaleo

n interesting large maize fields on gravel
oad to México City (crossing Lago Texcoco
ake bed) at ca. Km 1.8 WSW of Texcoco,
just WSW of San Felipe (ca. 300 m W of
bridge across irrigation canal next to big
Taxodium grove, at second Salix tree on N
side of road).

Plants 2-4 m tall, often much branched,
quite often heavily tillering (with 1-6
tillers) even in the densest part of the
cornfield, this perhaps related to the
irrigation of the corn field (N.B. Hardly
any introgressants and no FI hybrids with
corn were found here). (Martin Burd Station
#1) N.V. "Acece", "Diente de Muía".
