Near Echo Camp on the Lincoln Highway, elevation 7000
feet, in open places in the forest in damp granite soil. The prin-
cipal tree* is Ahies magnifica. Pinus Murrayana abounds in low
places about meadows, with an occasional P. Jeffreyi on exposed
ridges. Common undershrubs are Ceanothus aud Castanopsis.
