Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the center of the settlement of Castel-novo, in Mun. Ilhéus, Bahia. Using Falling Rain Global Gazetteer Version 2.2, found coordinates for the settlement of Castel-novo, and using Google Maps - Satellite View, verified the presence of a placed named "Castelo Novo" in the immediate vicinity of these coordinates. Since the precise location of the settlement could not be visualized, because of the low resolution of satellite images of this area (Google Maps), used the exact coordinates provided by Falling Rain as the coordinates for this georeference. Because the settlement of Castel-Novo does not have defined spatial boundaries, used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to approximate the linear extent by measuring to the nearest named place, Banco De Pedra, then halving this extent. Input coordinates, linear extent (3596.195 m), and measurement error (0.001 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Unbounded Area).
