Collection Notes
Herbarium of the U. S. North Pacific Exploring Expedition // Fide Naohira Naruhashi, Bull. Osaka Mus. Nat. Hist. 70: 84-85 (2016): Modern name of location: Okinawa Island, Okinawa Pref.; probably collected in 1855 // Kuntze (1879) does provide (a very brief) diagnosis on page 82 comparing the leaf shape to R. sieboldi, which at the time was sufficient for publication. So, the name R. bracteosus A. Gray ex Kuntze was validly published, but the name is illegitimate because it’s a later homonym. Kuntze mentions Wright's collection from Cosima (Japan) [at herb. LE] and Wright's collection from Loochoo Inseln [Ryukyu Islands] [at herb. P] in the text of his publication. //
