Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. could not find the precise location of the boundary between the Parque Nacional de Monte Pascoal and the Reserva Indígena Barra Velha; therefore, georeferenced to the approximate geographic midpoint between the approximate center of the Parque Nacional de Monte Pascoal and the approximate center of the Reserva Indígena Barra Velha. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the Parque Nacional de Monte Pascoal, and using a paper map of the area (Superintendência do Desenvolvimento do Nordeste. "Monte Pascoal" [Map]. Mapas da Região Nordeste do Brasil – 1:100,000. Convênio SUDENE – Governo do Estado da Bahia. SUDENE, Recife, PE, Brasil. 1977) located the indigenous village of Barra Velha. Beginning at the point provided as the center of the Parque Nacional de Monte Pascoal by Google Maps (-16.8781624 -39.2523453), used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line to the approximate geographic center of the village of Barra Velha (-16.8618839 -39.1544151), then halved that distance to approximate the location of the geographic midpoint. This distance value was also used as the linear extent. Using Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs, found coordinates for the midpoint. Input coordinates, linear extent (5294.65 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Between two places.
