    Growing on loose clay gypsum soil, on south facing hillside and on more level ground of the same soil type; Mentzelia laevicaulis is present in the same area, but not intermixed.

    Plants 6.5-11 inches tall, rosettes present, but few; corolla yellow (6a), 2 shoot form present, flowers closed at 8:40 am. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
