Wisconsin, Grant Co., 2.2 miles (by air) ESE of jet. of
Hwy. 133 and Hwy. 81 in central Cassville.
42°42’15”N, 90°57’05”W. alt. 200 m.
T 3 N; R 5 W; NE '/4 SW ‘/4 Sect. 27.
Small colony 2 m. long, not very vigorous. Edge of thin
woods of Populus, Celtis occidentalis at base of slope and
gravel road of quarry entrance near Hwy. 133. Probably not
deliberately planted. [Very large patches, perhaps of M.
sinensis Andersson, are occasionally seen in Grant County,
mostly at farm houses and sometimes along roads where
perhaps not deliberately planted, forming dense,
monospecific stands of very showy plants; evidently not
spreading elsehwere by seed.]
