POACEAE Common grass, growing in a semi-open, young 2nd-growth woodland on and amongst artificial mounds of bricks & old bog-iron furnace slag, in moist, black to sometimes reddish sandy loam (Hammonton loamy sand, clayey substratum, 0- 2% slopes; coarse-loamy, siliceous, semiactive, mesic Aquic Hapludults). Growing with Acer rubrum, Berberís thunbergii, Botrychium virginianum, Carex intumescens, C. muehlenbergii, C. swanii, Chasmanthium laxum, Chimaphila macúlala, Cinna arundinacea, Cornus florida, Danthonia spicata (rare), Dichanthelium dichotomum, Dioscorea villosa, Elaeagnus umbel lata, Fragaria virginica, Galium pilosum, G. triflorum, Hypericum hypericoides, Ilex opaca, Juniperus virginiana, Ligustrum sinense (?), Liparis liliifolia, Liquidambar styraciflua. Lonicera japónica, Microstegium vimineum, Milchella repens, Myrica pensylvanica, Oxalis sp., Parthenocissus quinquefolio, Pinus echinata, Pyrola americana, Quercus falcata, Q. phellos, Q. stellata, Sanícula canadensis, Sassafras albidum, Smilax rotundifolia, Toxicodendron radicans, Tridens flavus (rare), Vaccinium corymbosum, Verbascum thapsus (rare), Veronica arvensis, Viburnum dentatum & Vitis aestivalis (?). At the site of Aetna Fumace, 200-300ft N. of the Tuckahoe River. Head of River, Atlantic Co. Elev. about 10ft. 39° 18'24.6"N, 74° 48' 44.0"W. UTM 18 516188E, 4350843N (NAD83/WGS84). Coll.
