  • Description

    PILEUS: 65-93 mm, convex, densely matted subtomentose, red-brown (9D8-9E8-9F8). Context white with brown granular pigments; staining pale yellow-brown. Odor pungent but not distinguishable; taste mild. HYMENOPHORE: Poroid, adnexed; pores 2-3 per mm, round, dark orange-brown (7E8); staining dark brown; tubes 9-16 mm long, concolorous. STIPE: 55-92 x 10-16 mm, solid, equal, violaceous gray with small cinnamon-brown squamules over entire length except at base. Context white, staining light brown. Basal mycelium white. MACROCHEMICAL REACTIONS: Pileus and stipe blue-green (somewhat slowly) in NH4OH ; context negative.
