Habitat
Tropical evergreen forest on flat, the soil fine sandy and clay. Phenacospermum, Iriartea, Socratea, Orbignya phalerata, Bertholletia excelsa.

Description
Herbs, 2 m. tall, the rhizome lacking a pronounced odor. Inflorescences from base of plant, lax, trailing on ground, the peduncle and rachis together up to 5 cm. long. Fruit held erect, green-purple on outside, bright red within, the persisting tepals ora.
