Habitat
Abundant as main ground cover (moss mat up to 5 inches deep) in white spruce forest, with balsam poplar common; Moss mat not continuous in forest, but much of forest floor with 5 inch layer of litter and humus, then clay; Shrubs: Shepherdia, Viburnum, Rosa, Linnaea; Herbs: Cornus canadensis, Fragaria, Mitella, Habenaria, Pyrola, Geocaulon.
