  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the cliff region along Rio Cauaburí with an elevation of approximately 8500 - 9000 ft (approx. 2590.8 - 2743.2 m), in accordance with the description on label ("along open slopes to base of cliffs, 8500 to 9000 feet altitude"). Used Google Maps - Terrain and Earth View to locate Rio Cauaburí, a tributary of Rio Negro in Mun. Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, Amazonas. Followed along the river until located cliffs of the specified altitude range, at "Pico da Neblina." Used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the highest peak of Pico de Neblina, which is within the range of the specified altitude. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent of this locality by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the cliff area within the specified altitude range. Input coordinates, linear extent (8200.0 m), and measurement error (0.5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Defined Area).
