Openings in Pseudotsuga forest. Frequent. In gravels.

Description
Plants 3-5 dm. high; flowers blue-purple, lavender-purple, or red-purple; sterile filament with yellow bristles on upper surface for outer 1/2 of its length; anther sacs black-purple, confluent; dehiscent just anterior to apex by one slit which is margined with very short white hairs. Phenology of specimen: Flower, Fruit.
