Dear Mr. Ferguson:
I have your letter of April 20th. and the -¡f v ' .
three grasses which came in a separate package. I am
returning them with the names attached. Panicum commutation 3
is in the same group with Panicum ashei but has broader.
leaves and a smooth stem. Panipum oligosanthes is a close
ally of Panicum scribnerianmn hut bas longer spikelets and
is the common form in the southeastern states. The Arundinaria
is probably A. tecta though the large cane Arundinaria macros-
perma is occasionally found in that region. The latter,
however, is generally larger and the flowers are borne on the
leafy branches while in tecta they are generally borne on
