One clump hanging over the trail in montane forest, more common on
the other side of the ridge. Culms 4-6 cm in diameter, 11-12 m tall, erect
at base and with a ring of spinelike roots around each node at the base,
arching over toward the apex. Branching beginning more or less 18-20
nodes above the soil level; at higher nodes, usually 3-5 robust branches
per node. Lower intemodes 10-12 cm long, upper ones about 25 cm
long, smooth. Culms leaves extending for about two intemodes,
abaxially with hispid hairs, the blades small, reflexed deciduous.
