Jalisco: Hwy 80, 14 km SW of Autlán on the road to Barra
de Navidad, Puerto Los Mazos, below Microondas Los Mazos.
1320 m. 104° 26'W, 19° 41'N,
In secondary vegetation from encinal, bamboo seen only in
a couple of spots but more common higher up. Culms to 4-6
m long, to 2 cm basal diameter, erect at base the gently
arching above. Internodes ca. 9-15 cm long, glaucous on
new shoots. At base of culm, buds axillary only, becoming
verticillate by mid-culm; central branch frequently
developing; subsidiary branches to 30 cm long, arising
vertically and then bending away from the culm. Branching
initially extravaginal, then culm leaves deciduous, sheath
abaxially hispid, blade reflexed, caducous, small; culm
leaves persisting where branches do not develop (mainly at
base of culm).
