  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Assumed that this locality description is missing southeast direction (SE) for the 1.5 km offset, in accordance with other locality descriptions. Georeferenced to an offset of 1.5 km southeast of the approximate geographic center of the peak of La Gran Piedra in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. Used the Google Maps - Terrain and Earth View to find the peak (highest elevation) of the mountain; used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the peak (20.011467, -75.626833). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the linear extent of the peak by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the peak area. Input coordinates (20.011467, -75.626833), coordinate precision (.00001 degrees), datum (WGS84), linear extent (.92551 km), offset distance (1.5 km), offset direction (SE), measurement error (.01 km), and distance precision (1/2 km) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Offset: Offset at a heading). Note: Coordinates are within the 1000 alt range, in agreement with the locality description.
