Description
Pileus 8-15 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, even to somewhat uneven, dry, subvelutinous, finely areolate at margin in some, black to dark brown with hints of lilac in some at margin. Flesh white, unchanging or slowly with some erratic and scattered pale pink, with pungent odor and bitter taste. Tubes adnexed, whitish at first becoming vinaceous pink, staining brown, Stipe 8-11 cm long, 1.5-3 cm broad, equal to clavate, dry, finely subvelutinate to densely short-subpruinose, obscurely ridged below, whitish to pale lilac above to obscurely lilac masked by some black pigment, brownish lilac to black below or sometimes with some pale lilac, white at base, with interior white, unchanging, solid to somewhat pithy. Spore print pinkish brown (7D5).
