Sandy soil, disturbed by annual floods, open grassy areas, and brushy and wooded areas. With Piper aduncum, Gynerium sagittatum.

Shrub 4.5 m. tall, much-branched. Fruit light orange, then purple-black. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
