  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic midpoint of the railroad between the cities of Republiek and Zanderij in Para, Suriname. Used the Google Maps - Earth View to find the stretch of railroad connecting the city of Zanderij and Republiek. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure along the railroad beginning at the location where the railroad meets the approximate geographic center of Zanderij to the location where the railroad meets the approximate geographic center of Republiek, then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along the railroad nearest to the midpoint of this line; used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate midpoint of the railroad. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farther of the cities. Input coordinates, linear extent (2550.0 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Between two places).
