On the margins of an open diabase boulder-field with sparse birch (Betula) and ash (Fraxinus) and surrounded by a forest of birch (Betula), ash (Fraxinus), red maple (Acer rubrum), and hemlock (Tsuga). On the bark of a red maple (Acer rubrum).
