Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) website for locality information for Cachoeira Pancada (http://www.gbif.org/occurrence/57375, accessed: 12/17/2014). Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Rio Paru do Oeste between the approximate geographic center of Cachoeira Pancada and the confluence of Rio Paru do Oeste and Rio Trombetas in Mun. Oriximiná, Pará. Used the reference material and Google Maps - Earth View to locate Cachoeira Pancada along Rio Paru do Oeste and the confluence of Rio Paru do Oeste and Rio Trombetas. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the approximate geographic center of Cachoeira Pancada and the approximate geographic center of the confluence of the two rivers then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along Rio Paru do Oeste nearest to the midpoint of the line; used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the shore adjacent to the midpoint of the river (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the river segment. Input coordinates, linear extent (27780.0 m), and measurement error (10 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
