Weedy, upland tallgrass prairie, with scattered Madura pomífera and Ulmus rubra, and mesic Quercus muhlenbergii forest along edge of prairie and on slopes above Wakarusa River floodplain. Frequent surfacing limestone.
Common tree. Pith chambered, dark brown.
