Male inflorescences easily detached, 1 or 2 from axils of last year's leaves. Common small tree invading SW facing grassy slope, pastured until ca. 10 years ago, with Poa spp., Rumex acetosella, Achillea millefolium and a few prairie species such as Andropogon gerardii, Monarda fistulosa, becoming brushy and overgrown with Carya ovata, C. cordiformis, Quercus spp., Rhus glabra, Prunus serótina. 3 miles SE of RICHLAND CENTER.
