Fruit without ‘snout’. Upper portion of trunk peeling in small strips. Tall canopy tree. Common. Growing in an Oak-Hickory Mesic Woodland with Fagus granifolia, Acer platanoides, Quercus rubra, Quercus velutina, Carya tomentosa, Geranium maculatum, and Lindera benzoin.
