The New York Botanical Garden Woody Plants of U. S. A. FAGACEAE Quercus alba L. Large tree, 18 m. tall, 70 cm. in diameter; bark furrowed, the pieces not easily broken off; branches less than 20 cm. in diameter with scaly bark. This tree produced no fruit this year. Both shade and sun leaves collected. The sun leaves are shiny above and much darker green above and are thicker and stiffer. Shade leaves are flat. Both types of leaves are the same color below. SE-facing pasture slope with Carya cordiformis, Ulmus americana, Zanthoxylum americanum. WISCONSIN: Richland Co., 3 miles SE of Richland Center. T 10 N; R 1 E; NWiNWi sec. 36. alt. 275 m. Coll.: M.
