  • Description

    Trees and shrubs knocked over or damaged by Hurricane Irene. Large old tree, very likely native and spontaneous, 24 m tall (measured), 1 m in diameter; bark of main trunk coarsely platy but mostly tight and in some parts more finely scaly; upper branches with loose, thin plates. Petioles yellow. Fruit not abundant, the specimens from the upper canopy. A similar large tree 200 m away in the same habitat was blown down and showed no acorns at all in the canopy. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
