JACKSON COUNTY 35° 18.67’ N. Lat. 83° 11.78’ W. Long. Cullowhee; summit of southeast end of Berry Ridge, west campus of Western Carolina University, about 0.5 mile west of North Carolina Route 107. Elevation about 2500 feet. Metamorphic bedrock, generally gneiss and schist.
Mesic to dry-mesic upland forest on ridge, dominated by Quercus spp., Carya spp., Oxydendron arboreum, Pinus spp. Occasional shrub 2-3 meters tall, leaves glaucous-white beneath, green above; fruits immature.
