Cultivated at Duke University 1979-1982 from cuttings of Wm. Wayt Thomas 2032 coll. July 1979 at St. Andrew’s Parish: 1 mi. N of Bull Bay on rd. to Cane River Falls, on slopes of small gully near edge of road; shrubby second growth (no canopy) over yellowish shale with reddish-yellow clay; assoc, w/ P. perfoliata.
Self-incompatible in greenhouse; shoot tip straight; flowers red, horizontal or just below, no odor. Photos. FAA samples.
