SANDBERG: 150-170 m SSE of town along the "Old Ridge Route". Liebre Mountain 7.5' USGS Quadrangle. T8N R17W, NW/4 SE/4 NW/4 section 32. Oevation ca 4160-4190 feet.
Decomposed granite slopes largely dominated by chaparral with Adenostoma fasciculatum, Eriogonumfasciculation, Chrysothamnus nauseosus, Keckiella témala. Antirrhinum multiflorum, Eriophyllum conferliflorum, with scattered trees of Pinus sabiniana, Quercus lobata, and Quercus douglasii.
Young trees 8-10 m tall, scattered in vicinity; bark gray, fissured (to rectangularly plated); new twigs reddish-brown; leaves dark green above, slightly paler below; acorns large and lanceolate in outline, shells glabrous inside; involucra! cup large.
