Tiny shrub 2ft tall, yet with some acorns, this plant possibly so small because of occasional vegetation cutting under powerlines overhead. Occasional, this species with enormous overall morphological variation at this site.
Growing at the edge of an open woodland in sandy soil in what seems like an old dune field, with Andropogon gerardii, Aster macrophyllus, Centaurea maculosa, Comptonia peregrina, Corylus americana, Lechea intermedia, Pinus banksiana, P. resinosa, Pteridium aquilinum, Quercus alba X macrocarpa, Q. ellipsoidalis, Schizachyrium scoparium and Smilacina racemosa. To the N side of Red Lake Dr., about 0.45mi E of US Rt. 53. Wascott, Douglas Co. Elev. 1090ft. 46° 10' 21"N, 91° 47' 42"W. UTM 15 593014E, 5113691N.
